G3c Vs Gx4 - Looking for a full review of the new Taurus GX4? Well, you've come to the right place. I have owned and shot Taurus pistols for over twenty years. If you've read my other reviews (eg the Taurus G3C) you'll know that I don't always like the Taurus.
But I want to make a direct statement. This gun will be a game changer for Taurus. I have never seen a gun like this with "Taurus" engraved on the slide. Let me explain...
G3c Vs Gx4
A while ago I received an email from my contact at Taurus asking if I wanted to participate in the launch of a new 9mm pistol. Of course! I jumped at the chance – I love seeing new, pre-made guns…what shooter wouldn’t? Anyway, I picked up the gun at my friend Duane's gun shop and opened the box.

His friend Gary was there at the time I was there. Gary is a state police officer in my state and is a gun enthusiast - we talked a lot about guns. I gained an understanding of some of the special rifles and the qualities they carry in his hands, knowing that many shooters would not have that opportunity.
Anyway, I showed him the GX4 and the first words out of his mouth were "Is that a Taurus?"
I think this type of weapon combination is, in short, yes, Taurus nailed it.
Before we go any further, let's take a look at what's going on with 9mm pistols right now and see how the new Taurus fits in.
Taurus Gx4 Micro Compact 9mm Pistol
What is being done now with 9mm pistols is that they would be the same size or larger than single pack pistols, but have almost twice the capacity of the original cartridges.
Case in point is the new game Ruger Max-9, which has a 12+1 round capacity and isn't much heavier than its LC9 stablemate (check out my Ruger LC9s review for an idea). The rifle is loaded with 7 round extended magazines.
The Max-9 isn't quite as big, but it holds almost twice as much. The Taurus line may include the PT-709 Slim 9mm and the new GX4.
Slim is 6.25" long and 4.5" tall with just under an inch wide at .95". Holds 7 + 1 rounds. One of our sons has one of these and loves it - it's a great little gun money When you compare these measurements to those of the GX4, you start to see just how interesting this gun is.

I've put together a quick table comparing the GX4's key numbers to those of three other compacts on the market. Here we go:
When we dig into the features of the gun, I think you can come to the same conclusion I did - the Taurus steps up its game. So, we see that the new GX4 is on the same size level as some of the most popular concealed carry pistols – but what sets it apart from previous Taurus pistols?

It's a smaller, pocketable Spectrum compared to the GX4. Notice the small piece of GX4 sticking out from under the Spectrum. We must remember that the Spectrum is designed as a 10-ounce pocket pistol - the GX4 is not much. When you are involved in power, the comparison is very interesting. The Spectrum holds 6 or 7 (shown) rounds of .380; GX4, 11 rounds of 9mm.

GX4 over G3c. The G3c carries a Viridian red laser, so keep that in mind when looking at both.
Now for the Taurus G3c. This pistol is one of the best-selling semi-autos that Taurus makes, and for good reason. Holding 12 rounds and including three magazines, this pistol is upgradeable (fits Glock scopes) and easy to carry. Here are some comparison photos.
G3c, above; GX4, down. The G3c features AmeriGlo Glock night sights. The GX4 is equipped with a large rear bumper.
Here are some random numbers I collected today comparing these three Taurus pistols. I am including the necessary measurements for the size and weight of the gun.
Taurus G3c Vs Taurus Gx4 Size Comparison
So what does it all mean? Why compare three different guns from the same company? I want you, dear reader, to understand how small the GX4 is and to see where it fits (well) in the Taurus line of pistols. I've also included some competing models from other manufacturers above so you can see how this gun stacks up against some of the competition.
The GX4 will be one rifle that will demand a lot of time from the users who build it - I predict it will be a success for Taurus. Why do you ask? Good question. Let's take a closer look at it.
Pay attention to clean lines, without angularity. The lines are combined with excellent ergonomics. Not to rush, but when I shot this little gun, it seemed to shoot slower than my G3c. I'm not sure how they did it, but it's pretty cool. Also note the continuous scrolling display - great for verifying clicks and forcing the player to take action. Finally, the sliding side is reversed for easy insertion into the hole.
Here we have the basics to quickly expand your garden. Notice how the piece of newspaper has a small cut that matches the relief cut below. This is to make it easier to remove a magazine that has jammed in the gun if it does not fall free. I have no problem with this - magazines fly out of the grip.

Making an arrest. The Taurus continued the pattern from the G3 and G3c - strong enough to keep the gun in your hand, but not so strong that it burns your skin. Also notice the small pin on the bottom left - this is the pin you remove to change the back. I bought mine - I put that trigger on the gun...now it looks like a glock as my son said.
Here is something that is a good departure for Taurus and shows that they are very important to change their image - long frame bars. No little âtabsâ stick to the slide when it goes - these roads are bad. This tells me that Taurus is stepping up their game in a big way. The rail on the left side is pretty good except for the cut for the slide stop.
A good shot (above and below) of the flat trigger and its safety blade. This one doesn't sting my fingers like previous blades. Mag release is reversible for us lefties - yes! Also note the minimal slider stop/release. Yes, it acts as a release - just enough for the finger to release the slide, and the slide release spring tension is enough to hold the slide open, but not too much. Sometimes those stiff sliding release springs can cause you to press the release with two fingers - I hate that. Not much to use, other than that. It really works as advertised.
The open space above the trigger is a downward slope. Turn it clockwise with an edge or smoke and the slider will pop out, no sliding required. I'll take this slotted deer over the removable (read: easy to lose) carry pin any day.

Also visible here is a well-placed area above the trigger near the center. This is repeated on the other side and is designed as a place for the thumb to rest when not engaged in other activities such as pulling the trigger. It protects your fingers from problems.
Taurus has included this feature in at least three generations of their pistols, and it's nice to have—a fleeting reminder to keep your finger on the trigger until it's time to shoot. Another use for it is if you put your thumb on the rest while shooting - it supports a flexible grip, which is great.
The Taurus GX4 has a white spot on the front. The scope is attached in a similar way to the Glocksâ scope - it is attached with a screw on the bottom - see below.
Look back. Two targets are metal. Scopes are available - as with the G3c, the dovetail is cut with a Glock-style design. I assume these views should be available as you read this. There is also a new addition to the fish dish - beef. These days a new sign of Taurus is coming!
